There’s nothing like opening a new tube of lipstick or dipping into a new eyeshadow pan for the first time. Experimenting with new colors and products can be a fun and exciting way to refresh your look or shake those mid-semester blues. But experimenting can be expensive, and it’s easy to get lost in a sea of drugstore products, especially when the prices seem too good to be true. Here are three drugstore staples each under $10, to live by, whether you’re looking to change up your look or find a reliable and inexpensive alternative to your Sephora favorites:

Maybelline Color Sensational Bold Lipstick Price: $5.59

This lipstick not only gives you amazing color intensity, but it also lasts through meals without fading or smudging. Look no further for your new go-to lip product. This line has a wide range of shades, from pinky nudes to deep plums, so it’s perfect as an everyday product or for trying a bold new shade. The best part about this lipstick is that even though it has a semi-matte finish, it doesn’t dry out your lips and it glides on smoothly, almost like a lip balm. Yes, it may not have Charlotte Tilbury’s gorgeous rose-gold packaging, but at almost $30 cheaper, it’s a steal.

L'oreal Voluminous Mascara (in carbon black) Price: $5.79

This mascara has been my go-to for almost five years. Even after trying higher-end brands known for their mascara like Benefit (They’re Real!) and Too-Faced (Better Than Sex), I always go back to my L’oreal mascara. For someone who goes through a tube every two to three months, visiting my local CVS instead of Sephora or Nordstrom makes a huge difference. This mascara lengthens and thickens. A couple coats of this is the perfect complement to any look, whether its everyday natural or night-out glam. For those of you that are looking for super dark, black lashes, carbon black is the perfect shade. If you’re looking for something a little more natural, try black brown or soft black.

Wet n’ Wild Megaglo Highlighting Powder (in precious petals) Price: $4.99

I was blown away by this product. I had originally picked it up on a whim when I was looking for a cheaper alternative to Fenty Beauty’s gold highlighter, but it has completely exceeded my expectations. The product isn’t too powdery and blends on your cheekbones flawlessly. If you’ve never tried a gold-toned highlight and are feeling cautious, try this one! It will give you a gold sheen that you can build to your liking, whether you’re going for a natural glow or intense shine.

Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal Eyeliner (in brown) Price: $3.99

Rimmel’s waterproof eyeliner is another product that’s been on my re-purchase list for years. The product glides on easily whether you’re using it at your bottom or top lash line, in your waterline or out. Unlike other drugstore eyeliners, it won’t fade or make its way down your face through the day. The waterproof formula is long-lasting but doesn’t result in a harsh burn when you tightline. Even better, it’s easy to smudge with a brush, perfect for a two-minute smokey eye.
